Adesso scacciate dalla mente entrambi i generi di creature viste ad esempio nella saga cinematografica di Twilight e anche gli ultimi strani vampiri o strigoi del più recente The Strain visto su Fox con una specie di proboscide retrattile e schifosa, utilissima tuttavia per succhiare il sangue, e non solo, dei malcapitati di turno. Tuttavia non chiamatelo “lupo mannaro” che “è razzista” quasi peggio di “zingaro”, come lo appella una ragazzina del posto, invece “uomo-bestia è meglio”. Poi c’è appunto Roman che è un Upir, un particolare tipo di vampiro che mentre fa l’amore in macchina con la ragazza, gli piace sporcarla di sangue magari tagliandosi un dito ed è innamorato di sua cugina Letha che resta incinta di un angelo. Certo, come no. Sua madre, non di Letha ma di Roman, si chiama Olivia e dalla cicatrice sul fondoschiena si direbbe che un giorno avesse la coda. Sua sorella invece è davvero assurda, a due anni pesava giù 18 chili, ricorda con orrore il padre prima di spararsi in testa: ora è altissima, enorme, cammina pesantemente per i corridoi della scuola con i lunghi capelli neri a coprirle la faccia (vi è venuta in mente Samara di The Ring? Anche a noi), ma in realtà è calva e ha pure un occhio di vetro. Non piace a nessuno, ovvio, tranne che a Peter. Roman e Peter in realtà dovrebbero odiarsi per una questione, diciamo razziale e pure familiare, invece vanno d’accordissimo.
