Ma soprattutto viene utilizzato un umorismo surreale. Fisicamente la Pantera Rosa è filiforme, con un lungo muso e piccoli occhi, possiede lunghi baffi e un naso rosso e, nella sigla di apertura della serie televisiva, fuma una sigaretta usando un lungo bocchino. Le storie si articolano in un mondo stilizzato, dove il reale è rappresentato con poche ed essenziali linee. Compie azioni fuori dalle logiche comuni, che creano nello spettatore adulto un sorrisino divertito mentre anche i piccini ne apprezzano le situazioni buffe. La vittima ricorrente nelle sue storie è un ometto buffo e basso, la cui metà del corpo è costituita da un enorme naso e piccoli baffi: nei film l'ometto era la caricatura dell'ispettore Clouseau. Il cartone animato, grazie ancora al tema musicale, diventa subito popolare e apprezzato: già il primo corto, The Pink Phink, si aggiudica un Academy Award. A total of 124 6-minute cartoons were produced between 1964 and 1980. This was the first Pink Panther cartoon directed by Art Leonardi, who also provides uncredited voices of the invisible monster and the laughing skull. Leonardi also animated or wrote some of the earlier Pink Panther shorts. The Pink Panther is backpacking through Transylvania and stops to spend a night at a castle, believing it to be a lodge. It is in fact a vampire's castle also occupied by a hairy, knife-throwing hand, a Yeti-link phantom in squeaky shoes, and a shark in the moat. Thinking the vampire's coffin to be that of a dead man, the Pink Panther buries it. Dusk arrives, the coffin rumbles to surface, and the vampire emerges. The Pink Panther repeatedly tries to repel the vampire. This invariably causes the vampire to go out the window and fall into a moat, where he is preyed on by the shark. At the end of the cartoon, sunrise causes the vampire, shark, phantom, and castle to all disappear. The episode closely resembles Pink Panic».
