Aiutata da due ragazzi che viaggiano per la California a bordo di rombanti motociclette, Judith segue una labile traccia che la porta fino a Venice dove scopre che Joanie è caduta nelle grinfie del vecchio paralitico dottor Duryea (Naish), ultimo discendente della famiglia Frankenstein, dedito a sinistri esperimenti di trapianti anatomici a danno delle giovani vittime che gli procurano il semi-idiota Groton (Chaney) e il sadico nano Grazbo (Rossitto). Duryea ha appena stretto un patto con Dracula il Vampiro accettando di resuscitare l'originaria creatura di Frankenstein per fondare insieme un regno di terrore, ma la cattura di Judith provoca, imprevedibilmente, profonde tensioni e gelosie tra loro, mettendoli in conflitto gli uni contro gli altri. Dracula vs. Frankestein clona i fin troppo sfruttati intrecci dei monster-movies della Universal degli anni '40, non per nostalgia cinefila ma soltanto per mancanza di idee e per piatto calcolo commerciale. Realizzato in due settimane, con mezzi di fortuna e inizialmente progettato come sequel di Satan's Sadists (il che giustifica la partecipazione di Russ Tamblyn e l'esile sottotrama con i giovinastri motorizzati), il film ha uno svolgimento confuso e frammentario che trabocca più volte nella comicità involontaria. Non volendo riflettere sugli oscuri meccanismi che promuovono pellicole inguardabili a rango di "cult movie", il film ci appare falso e pretestuoso: uno spettacolo inconcepibile per quanti conoscono il talento di Ken Strickfaden - che accetta, qui, di rispolverare il laboratorio del Frankenstein del 1931 - e deprimente per quanti ricordano i nomi di Naish, Chaney e Rossitto (per Naish e per Chaney si tratta dell'ultima interpretazione) e li riscopre malamente invecchiati e impietosamente costretti a parodiare se stessi. Zandor Vorkov - pseudonimo di Roger Engel - dà volto ad uno dei meno convincenti Dracula dello schermo dopo il forfait di Broderick Crawford».

Dracula vs. Frankenstein began life as Satan's Bloody Freaks, a standard mad science flick featuring J. Carrol Naish as a mad scientist and Lon Chaney, Jr as his faithful servant. However, the completed film was not to the liking of producer/co-writer Samuel M. Sherman, and the movie went back into production to add new scenes with Dracula and the Frankenstein Monster. However, the new ending didn't have the "punch" that Sherman wanted, so a new one was shot with a different actor in the Monster's makeup.1 As a result of its wacky production history and somewhat shabby production values, Al Adamson's Dracula vs. Frankenstein is one of the great "bad" movies of all time. If the thrill-seekers knew what went on in Duryea's secret lab, though, they'd tear up their tickets and run. The mad scientist is developing a serum made from the blood of exceptionally traumatized women. His specimens are collected by his hulking, mute manservant Groton (Lon Chaney, Jr.), who clutches a puppy to his chest when he's not wielding an ax. One night, Duryea is visited by Count Dracula (Zandor Vorkov), who knows that the doctor is really the last of the Frankenstein line. Together, they resurrect the original Frankenstein Monster. Dracula wants Duryea's serum for his own purposes, but all evil plots are threatened when a nosy Vegas singer, Judith (Regina Carrol, Adamson's wife), comes looking for her missing sister.
