Trama e commenti: it.wikipedia.org: «Jean Michel Rollin Le Gentil (Neuilly-sur-Seine, 3 novembre 1938 – Parigi, 15 dicembre 2010) è un regista e sceneggiatore francese. Regista, sceneggiatore e produttore, si è espresso essenzialmente nel campo del cinema fantastico. Il suo primo lungometraggio, Le Viol du vampire (ottenuto mettendo insieme due medio-metraggi) esce nel 1968. Si tratta di uno dei pochi film presenti nelle sale francesi durante i disordini del Maggio '68 e provoca pertanto una serie di reazioni ostili da parte di alcuni spettatori, non abituati a questo genere di pellicole. I suoi film trattano essenzialmente la figura del vampiro e sono caratterizzati da un ritmo lento e trasognato, nonché da un soffuso erotismo, raffinato e composto in inquadrature dall'intenso fascino grafico ed estetico, quasi pittorico. Negli anni '70 e '80, Rollin realizza anche una serie di film porno, firmati usando diversi pseudonimi, quali Michel Gentil, Michel Gand, Michael Gentle e Robert Xavier. Il regista è inoltre apparso come attore in talune commedie dirette da Norbert Moutier».

The Shiver of the Vampires, for example, gives us one of the most familiar of all horror plots: a newlywed couple spends an evening at a castle and discovers it is crawling with vampires. But Rollin tells his stories in the most unconventional of ways. In Shiver, the vampires become intellectual hippies who spout bizarre theories about the history of religion in Europe. His movies contain elements of horror cinema, but Rollin insists he does not make horror films. Not surprisingly, because his movies tend to defy the expectations of audiences, reactions to his movies can be volatile. His first full-length film, The Rape of the Vampire, was greeted with violent protests in Paris. And throughout his career, his movies have encountered hostile critical reactions. The French Board of Control (which certified movies for release in France) described Rollin's The Demoniacs as "a complete stupidity."  Compounding the problem, Rollin frequently solicits expressionistic, extravagant performances from his (largely inexperienced) actors. Or he allows the actresses to remain virtually immobile--like cold, beautiful sphinxes.
