Trama e commenti: cinematografo.it - mymovies.it - cinefile.biz: «In un tempo quando ancora il Mondo era giovane, quando i maghi esercitavano la loro Arte e gli avventurieri viaggiavano alla ricerca di imprese da compiere, Titus Cromwell re di Ehdan fa resuscitare il mago Xusia perché i suoi poteri occulti gli saranno utili per sbaragliare l'esercito di re Richard e conquistarne il regno. Appena raggiunto il suo obiettivo, però, Cromwell si sbarazza di Xusia (in una scena che è costata la vita alla controfigura). Ma se Richard e la sua sposa sono morti sotto la sua spada, Cromwell non è riuscito a catturare il giovane primogenito Talon, fuggito chissà dove con la spada a tre lame del padre. Undici anni dopo, Talon... Erano i primi anni Ottanta, quando sulla scorta dell'attesa derivante dal Conan con Schwarzenegger e del successo del gioco di "Dungeons & Dragons" Hollywood metteva in produzione un film di cappa, spada e magia dietro l'altro. La maggior parte avevano il difetto di prendersi troppo sul serio, non riuscendo a supportare in fase di produzione l'aura mitica e mitologica che i progetti avrebbero dovuto avere. The Sword and the Sorcerer (nomen omen) è invece dotato di quell'ironia capace di far dimenticare la pochezza dell'intreccio, la piattezza della realizzazione e forse persino l'inascoltabilità delle musiche. In effetti, il regista e co-sceneggiatore Albert Pyun si impegna per nascondere il più possibille le scenografie di plastica e la permanente del suo protagonista...».
