«...Il 7 maggio 1931, il primo film sonoro di produzione danese, diretto da
George Schnéevoigt e basato su un classico della letteratura nazionale, Præsten
i Vejlby (Il Vicario di Vejlby), fu proiettato al Kinopalaeet di
Copenhagen. Il film divenne un successo in tutto il paese. Il lungometraggio
faceva sperare talmente bene che il presidente di una delle associazioni
cinematografiche, alla fine del 1932, espresse la sua più viva fiducia nel
successo economico del settore dell'esercizio cinematografico. Tale successo fu
presto seguito da una serie di film sonori. Palladium adottò il sistema sonoro
(ottico) BOFA di Bang e Olufsen nel 1932 e la società presentò il suo primo
film totalmente parlato, un remake di un passato successo Fy and By, Han,
Hun og Hamlet (Lui, Lei
& Amleto) (1922). Ben presto, farse e commedie
musicali superarono numericamente adattamenti letterari di tutto rispetto. Si
affermò una sorta di consuetudine nell'accoglienza del film danese: entusiasmo
del pubblico contro l'indulgenza o la collera dei critici, per un insieme di
film "che in una speculazione sfrontata incoraggiava il gusto più
banale"...».

«...On May 7 1931, the first Danish
feature film with sound, The Vicar in Vejlby, was premiered in
Kinopalaeet, Copenhagen, directed by George Schnéevoigt and based on a
treasured national literary classic. The film became a hit all over the country.
The future looked so promising that the president of one of the cinema
associations at the turn of 1932 expressed his solid faith in the economic
circumstances of cinemas. The success was quickly followed by a series of sound
films. Palladium adopted Bang and Olufsen's BOFA (optical) soundsystem in 1932
and the company presented its first all–talkie–film, a remake of the old Fy
and By success: He,
She and Hamlet (1922). Soon,
wild farces and musical comedies outnumbered respectful literary adaptations and
a contrasting foundation was laid down characterising the conception of the
essence of Danish film: enthusiasm of the audience versus indulgence or anger of
the critics, with a heap of films "that in shameless speculation pandered
to the simplest taste"...».
