«Plenty of action
adorns the screen as Montalban plays a common man who has risen in status in
order to go through with his plans for revenge against Ansara and Jason, the
count and son responsible for the death of Montalban's father. To carry out his
scheme, Montalban marries Jones, though he is really in love with St. John, the
wife of Jason. Montalban's determination pays off when revenge is his. In the
end he wins the hand of St. John, his true love. The film places most of its
emphasis on the action sequences. The lush backgrounds add to the flavor of the
times, although several scenes are tinted black-and-white footage instead of
color. This vengeance theme is almost an exact replica of that in the John Wayne
vehicle King of the Pecos (1936)--with a different setting and time
period».
