In occasione dei cinquant'anni di regno della regina Elisabetta II, la BBC ha deciso di celebrare il proprio Paese con una mini-serie tv ambiziosa, The hollow crown, che a luglio ha tenuto incollata mezza Gran Bretagna. Al centro ci sono le tragedie del Bardo della quadrilogia dell'Enrieide: Riccardo II, Enrico IV parte uno e due ed Enrico V che raccontano le cause della cosiddetta Guerra delle due Rose. Una scelta tutt'altro che scontata anche perché la rete tv ha deciso di offrire al pubblico una trasposizione fedele e sostanzialmente integrale dei versi in inglese arcaico. Un rischio questo, che poteva essere letale alla serie, ma al contrario si è rivelato vincente. Ogni puntata di "The hollow crown" dura circa due ore, sono in pratica dei veri e propri film, e vanno seguite con molta attenzione. Ovviamente per un'impresa del genere la BBC ha reclutato il meglio degli attori sulla piazza: da Jeremy Irons a John Hurt, da Julie Walters a Richard Griffits, da Patrick Stewart a Geraldine Chaplin e attori shakespiriani vecchi e nuovi come Rory Kinnear, James Purefoy, David Bradley, Simon Russel Beale, David Suchet. Ma per due ruoli di peso come Riccardo II ed Enrico V si è affidata a due star emergenti come Ben Whishaw e Tom Hiddleston. ... In Italia al momento non è ancora prevista la sua messa in onda. ...».
