Trasmesso su Tele Lazio per la prima volta nel 1981, questo cartone animato narrava le gesta di un giovane Re Artù e dei suoi mitici cavalieri della Tavola Rotonda. Il cartone aveva come protagonisti tutti i personaggi resi celebri dal Ciclo Bretone tra cui Lancillotto (citato nel testo della sigla come "furbo più di un gatto"), Tristano, Parsifal, Ginevra, il Mago Merlino ecc. Nel 1997 ha subito un ridoppiaggio ad opera di Mediaset che, oltre alla sigla, ha cambiato il titolo in Re Artù, King Arthur. Dal 15 maggio 2005 la serie è stata replicata sul canale satellitare Italia Teen Television mentre nel 2008, l'8 dicembre, la serie viene ritrasmessa sul neonato canale a pagamento del digitale terrestre Hiro. Trama: il giorno del terzo compleanno del piccolo Artù, (futuro sovrano del Regno) figlio di Re Uther, il malvagio Re Lavik (che è appoggiato da una strega di nome Medessa) con i suoi soldati attacca il castello di Camelot dandolo alle fiamme. Re Uther pur combattendo coraggiosamente non riesce a sfuggire ad un colpo di spada infertogli da Lavik alle spalle rimanendo ucciso. Il principe riesce a salvarsi perché il Mago profeta Merlino lo porta via da un passaggio segreto, e lo affida al cavaliere Hecthor che lo crescerà come suo figlio. Passano dodici anni, Artù ormai è un giovane uomo coraggioso e leale. Un giorno assiste con la sua famiglia ad un rito Sacro a cui devono partecipare tutti i sovrani: chiunque di loro riesca ad estrarre una spada sacra infilzata in una roccia, sarà il futuro Re di Wrogless; non ci riesce nessuno, allora Lavik prova a far compiere il gesto al più forte dei suoi uomini ma ancora una volta senza successo, Artù si mette a ridere per la goffagine del soldato facendo innervosire il già contrariato Lavik, che, a questo punto ordina a lui di estrarre la spada, altrimenti verrà decapitato. Con la sorpresa di tutti i presenti, il ragazzo estrae facilmente ed incredulo l'arma dalla pietra, a questo punto il padre adottivo rivela a tutti presenti la vera identità di Artù. Qui iniziano le avventure di Artù ed i suoi amici Cavalieri della Tavola Rotonda. ...».

Story of the Knights of the Round Table: Burn, Arthur), is a Japanese anime series based on the Arthurian legend. Produced by Toei Animation, it consisted of 30 half-hour episodes released between September 9, 1979 and March 3, 1980. The series achieved more widespread popularity in its non-English translations. When Prince Arthur was a baby and his father King Uther ruled Camelot, Lavik, another king who wishes to conquer Camelot, attacked the castle. Arthur is saved by Merlin who sent him to another knight to keep Arthur in a safe place. For many years this knight brought Arthur up as his own son. At the age of 15 Arthur attended to a tournament with his stepfather. There he could pull the sword Excalibur from a stone. This action proved that Arthur is the legitimate king of England. Finally Arthur’s stepfather revealed him his royal lineage. Since then King Arthur and some subjects began to fight against the wicked King Lavik, who is helped by a witch called Medessa. Similarities and differences between the series and the legend: King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table retold the story of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. It featured Arthurian characters such as Lancelot, Guinevere, Tristan, Percival, Merlin, Uther, and Igraine, and other familiar items like Camelot and Excalibur. On the other hand the series are not faithfully adjusted to the original narration of the legend. For example new characters and stories are added and the plot became softer. In the early 1980s a french dubbed version was released through Jacques Censtrier Productions. Titled Le Roi Arthur, only the first 4 episodes were released onto VHS.
