da bambini Veronika e Fabian si volevano molto bene, ma la loro amicizia è
finita per colpa di una diatriba fra i rispettivi padri per un lembo di terra.
Rovinati economicamente dai lunghi processi, i due contadini, incontrandosi per
caso si assalgono a vicenda, mentre fra Veronika e Fabian sboccia l'amore.
Vedendoli assieme, il padre di Veronika si arrabbia molto con la figlia e Fabian
lo colpisce. Consci che la loro storia d'amore non avrà mai un futuro, i due
ragazzi trascorrono una bella giornata partecipando a una festa in un paesino

farmers Grimm and Melcher had once been on friendly terms. But an argument about
a ridiculously small piece of land has turned them into implacable enemies. This
has led to a bitter legal battle, dragging on for years. The children of the
feuding families - Veronika and Fabian used to be affectionate to each in their
youth. Now, they suddenly meet again - while their incensed fathers are
embroiled in a fight - and discover that they love each other. They are
completely overwhelmed by their emotions. But, at the same time, they come to
realize how desperately hopeless their love is. There is no common future for
them and the last flicker of hope is extinguished when Veronika's father becomes
insane, following a tragic accident in which Fabian is fatefully involved. In
order to share at least one day's happiness, they leave the village. In the
neighbouring village, there is a fair at which the young people abandon
themselves, dancing and having fun. In the evening, they become lovers and then
seek death together in the river».
