Siamo nel sesto secolo in Inghilterra e il Mago Merlino, con il supporto di Tony e Doug, aiuta Re Artù a sconfiggere i Vichinghi. The Time Tunnel è stato trasmesso in Italia - e su certi network regionali lo è tuttora - con il titolo Kronos. Si tratta di un serial televisivo prodotto da Irwin Allen, un personaggio che, così come Gerry Anderson, ha vissuto creando serial TV fantascientifici di mediocre valore, ma dal grande affetto nostalgico da parte di tutti i fan. ... The Time Tunnel viene prodotto da Irwin Allen tra il 1966 e il 1967 per la 20th Century Fox Televison. Nel cast figurano James Darren e Robert Colbert che interpretano rispettivamente gli scienziati Tony Newman e Doug Phillips. Questi sono i due personaggi che si trovano rimbalzati da un tempo all'altro e da una situazione storica all'altra. Ovviamente vi è anche una base militare da dove si cerca di gestire le coordinate temporali, e al suo interno trovano spazio Whit Bissell (Lt. Gen. Heywood Kirk), John Zaremba (Dr. Raymond Swain) e Lee Meriwether (Dr. Ann MacGregor). I tempi tecnici del telefilm sono quelli tipici degli Anni Sessanta, lenti e poveri di dialoghi, sebbene in certi casi non manchi il colpo di scena o l'intuizione brillante. Naturalmente l'espediente del viaggio temporale attraverso il tunnel permise ad Allen una grande disponibilità di ambientazioni. Grazie a questo abile marchingegno era possibile scaraventare i suoi due eroi nel bel mezzo della guerra mondiale o di un complotto giapponese dei giorni nostri. Oppure farli diventare parte integrante della Bibbia a loro insaputa. Insomma, non c'era nessun pianeta selvaggio da ricostruire in studio, come per Star Trek. La Terra sarebbe stata la stessa che calpestavano i nostri antenati e che avrebbero calpestato i nostri pronipoti. L'importante era costruire una storia avvincente, ricca di tensione e patos, evitando di creare paradossi temporali. Cosa, per altro, non sempre riuscita. Ad Allen non servivano effetti speciali particolari o make-up alieni (a parte rarissimi casi), ma soltanto una storia convincente ricca di tensione psicologica da girare in una strada, collina o deserto qualsiasi (ovviamente ricostruito per l'occasione in studio). Qui i due scienziati americani, persi nei meandri del passato e del futuro durante il primo e segretissimo esperimento di viaggio temporale, trovano la loro giusta collocazione per decine d'episodi. In realtà l'effetto speciale principale è proprio il tunnel temporale che viene rappresentato da un vortice che pare volerci risucchiare dalle nostre poltrone di casa. Il magico tunnel, progetto che al governo americano è costato 7 milioni di dollari e che garantisce il viaggio nel tempo, permette agli scienziati che seguono l'esperimento presso la base militare americana di tenere sotto i propri occhi gli eventi dei due crononauti grazie ad un apposito monitor. Scientificamente riesce difficile a spiegarsi, ma ai fini dell'effetto "pathos condiviso" (eroi/scienziati/pubblico televisivo) possiamo chiudere un occhio. ...».

Ann, Kirk and Swain are startled when Doug and Tony are frozen in the Vortex of Time. Suddenly, they too are frozen in place. Merlin appears before them, then, with a gesture, he calls the Time Travellers before him and orders them into his service. Tony and Doug materialize in a rocky glade and are immediately attacked by Vikings. Overpowering them, Tony turns to face the young Arthur, who asks them to join him against his Viking enemies. As Arthur leads them away from his Father's castle, now held by the Vikings, they are again attacked. Doug is run through with a sword, while Tony and Arthur are ordered taken as prisoners by Wogan, a Viking Chieftain. In a dungeon, Tony manages to regain consciousness. He escapes, as Doug, seriously wounded, is being tended by Guinevere. Merlin appears and miraculously orders Doug, with no evidence of a wound, to his feet. At the castle, Tony, disposing of the prison guards, Finds Arthur unconscious, Doug, determined to rescue his friend, starts out alone For the castle. The Tunnel technicians are ready to switch Doug and Tony, when Merlin appears and warns them not to move the Travellers. Meanwhile, Wogan, searching for the escaped prisoner;, discovers a dagger and recaptures them. Guinevere has followed Doug, offering to show him the way, but they are both taken by the Vikings and Doug is chained to the dungeon wall alongside Tony and Arthur. Wogan then goes to the dungeon and orders the death of the prisoners. A bowman left to execute them, sends an arrow through Arthur's heart, but Merlin appears and reverses the action, restoring Arthur to life and freeing them from their chains. Escaping, Doug goes to rally the knights loyal to Arthur. Using his last miracle, Merlin, knowing Vikings fear only Vikings, transforms the knights into Vikings. When the attack begins, Tony rescues Guinevere and Arthur. Victorious, Merlin is predicting the glorious future of Arthur when Tony and Doug, watching, suddenly vanish, which is no surprise to Merlin».
